EMACT FESTIVAL 2008 entry

"VARICOSE VANITIES"

Following a rather lackluster performance, an aging actor questions whether or not his best stage moments are behind him during a revealing conversation with the theater's costume mistress, a former actress whose own decision to retire from the stage, years earlier, seems to have been made for the wrong reasons. Set in a costume shop of a small theatre in Cleveland, this one-act play will be performed in its entirety. The author, the late Don Bianchi, was a founder of the Dobama Theatre (www.dobama.org) in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.

Audition Dates: Tuesday, April 8 and Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.
at the Cindy Wright Dance Studio at the

Christ Church United Methodist, 2 Brook Street, Wellesley MA
No appointments are necessary.

All roles are available. Actors are requested to memorize a one- to two-minute monologue that the actor feels reflects his/her strengths - any genre is acceptable. You are also asked to familiarize yourself with the play. Perusal copies of the play will be available at the Wellesley Main Library Reference Desk or by clicking this link!

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

Rose: Late 60's early 70's. A wardrobe mistress at a regional theater company. A retired actress of some notoriety.

Arthur: Late 60's early 70's. A company actor at the regional theater where Rose works, coming to that point in his life where he is wondering if it might be time to retire from the stage.

The EMACT Festival 2008 will be held during the period June 12- 15, 2008 at the Marion D. Campbell Performing Arts Center at the Groton School in Groton, MA. The date and time slot for our entry in this competition will not be selected until May, therefore calendars must be flexible! Please bring your calendar to auditions! You will need to inform us of any and all conflicts you have for the period April 28 through June 15. This is of utmost importance in coordinating the rehearsal schedule.
